MISSION STATEMENT
The Surgery Center of Farmington is a privately owned, freestanding
Ambulatory Surgery Center. The mission of the center is to provide cost
effective, efficient outpatient surgery to the community, denying services to no
one while maintaining fiscal responsibility. We also strive to exceed the
expectations of both the patients and physicians. In addition, we foster a
caring atmosphere enriched with collaboration, innovation, and surgical care in
the community.
ABOUT THE CHARGES
Most day surgery procedures are covered by insurance. Once insurance
coverage has been verified, patients are expected to pay any remaining
deductible before or on the day of surgery.
As a courtesy to you, we will bill your insurance company for their portion
of the cost of your care. You will be billed only for your co-pay portion
provided your insurance company makes timely payment. Some insurance
companies make payment directly to the patient, in which case we request your
timely payment to us.
Advance payment is customary for procedures not covered by insurance, or for
patients without insurance. For your convenience, we accept most major
credit cards.
ADDITIONAL CHARGES
The Surgery Center of Farmington must contract with other healthcare
providers for certain aspects of your care. In addition to the charges
from your physician and the surgery center, you may receive statements from the
following contracted providers:
Anesthesia Services: If you were given a general anesthetic,
block, or had sedation with anesthesia personnel in attendance, you will be
receiving a bill for their professional services.
Laboratory: If your physician requested blood work, you will receive
a statement from the providing facility.
X-ray Studies: If you have x-rays taken for your procedure, you
will receive a statement from the facility in which you had the x-ray. If
it was done at the hospital, you may also receive a charge from the radiologist
who interprets the film.
Pathology: If your doctor sends tissue away for analysis, you will
receive two additional bills - one from the hospital that prepares the slides
and one from the doctor who reads them. The hospital fee is called the
technical component and the doctor's charge is called the professional
component.
PRE-ADMISSION APPOINTMENT
In many instances, patients will come to the Center several days before their
procedure for a pre-admission visit. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by
the receptionist who will assist you in registering for the procedure.
After this, you will spend some time with the pre-admission nurse who will
obtain your medical history, perform testing requested by your doctor, give you
instructions as to what to do to prepare for your surgery, and answer any
question you may have. You will also meet with our business staff
regarding insurance coverage. The total time for this visit, of course,
varies from patient to patient, but on the average, takes 45 minutes.
Things you will need for your visit:
- Special Insurance Forms (if your company requires one).
- Your Insurance Card
- Any medical records the doctor gave you to bring
- A list of your current medications or, if you wish, bring the bottles with
you.
DAY BEFORE SURGERY
- DO NOT eat, drink, chew gum, or eat candy after midnight, unless you have
been instructed otherwise. If you smoke, no smoking after 6:00 p.m.
- Please leave valuables, jewelry, and money at home.
- Plan on wearing loose, comfortable clothing (sweat suits or casual attire
is fine)
INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE DAY OF SURGERY
- Even though you have been told not to eat or drink after midnight, take
your daily medications with a sip of water the morning of surgery. DO
NOT take sedatives, tranquilizers, insulin, or aspirin unless you are told
otherwise.
- You must bring a responsible adult with you to take you home and stay with
you through the night. If you do not have one, your surgery may have
to be rescheduled until these arrangements can be made.
- Bring any forms or papers your physician may have given you.
- Children may bring their favorite toy and/or blanket.
- If at all possible make care arrangements for siblings so they do not have
to wait during the operative and postoperative period
- If you are having cataract surgery and you were given eye drops to use
before surgery, please bring them with you. We will be using your eye
drops during your surgery.
AFTER THE PROCEDURE (we close at 5 p.m.)
You will rest in the recovery area until you are able to go home. You
and the responsible adult you have brought will be given instructions about your
care at home, any prescriptions for medication the doctor may want you to have,
when to see the doctor again and what to do in the event of an emergency.
Ask questions about anything you do not understand. Your responsible adult
will be given a copy of these instructions. If an emergency occurs, call
your physician even if it is after hours. Your doctor has an answering
service who will have your doctor call you. If for some reason you are
unable to contact your physician, call or go to the nearest Emergency Room.
